The documentary style pervades much of my photographic work including sports, self-assigned projects, street photography, and environmental portraiture.
Since 2000 I have been teaching visual anthropology and photography at the university level. During this time I have authored a course, produced several visual essays, transitioned from film to digital photography, and convinced many students to embrace photography as their passion, some even their vocation.
As a professional sports photographer, I have published pictures in Sports Illustrated, ESPN and various other sports news outlets. I currently cover high school, college and profesional teams, mostly in the Houston, Texas area. You can see my coverage of college and professional teams at Icon Sportswire and high school sports at MaxPreps.
As a freelance photographer I am a frequent contributor to the Houston Chronicle; I cover sports, local events and partner with writers on personal profile stories. In the greater Houston area I do real estate and aerial photography for local realtors.
Drawing inspiration from nearly fifteen years of creating assemblages and retablos, I construct photo composites from elements found in my collection of sports coverage, landscapes, architecture, street scenes and portraits. My visual narratives reflect ruminations about transcendence, re-invention and restoration.
